Minimum wage 2026 after tax: $26.44 an hour in your pocket
The National Minimum Wage rose 4.75% on 1 July. Here is what it pays after tax, weekly, fortnightly and yearly.

Australia's National Minimum Wage rose 4.75% from 1 July 2026, to $26.44 an hour or $1,004.90 for a 38-hour week (Study Australia). That's ahead of inflation, which was 3.5% in July.

At 15 or 20 hours a week you pay little or no tax, because your weekly pay sits near the tax-free threshold.
Casual and award rates
Casuals get a 25% loading instead of paid leave, taking the minimum to $33.05 an hour. Many jobs are covered by an award with a higher minimum, and delivery workers have their own minimum standards from 17 August 2026. Check your award with the Fair Work Ombudsman's pay tool.
